Walking straight from the cottage near Kirkby Stephen, there are tracks and footpaths to explore down past the farm to a stream and beyond to the river where you will see so much of our native flora and forna.

There are wonderful local walks exploring the Howgills and the Mallerstang Valley www.visiteden.co.uk

Being close to the Lake District and Yorkshire dales national parks there are walks for every ability close by www.where2walk.co.uk has some great ideas.

Besides being surrounded by the sights, sounds (and smells) of the farms around us the wildlife at Nelson barn is abundant and we are regularly privelidged to see or hear hawks, owls, buzzards, curlews, oyster catchers, bats, heron, hares, deer and even the Kirkby Stephen parrots!
